Hi everyone. Sorry for the gap since I last posted. I attempted to post on the blog feature on SCHoodle but it created problems, so we’re back here.

I thought a lot of you would be interested in this .Harry Hill is writing a new joke book and he needs your help. The only rule is that you have to be under 16 years old, and the closing date is appropriately enough -April Fools Day. Knowing how much so many of you enjoy the Harry Hill joke book we have in the library already – why not join in?

I have registered our school for the Everyone’s READING scheme which entitles us to choose 15 free books for the library, paid for by the government.
Help us choose our 15 titles from the Everyone’s READING booklist which is in the library or look at it on-line. We would prefer 15 new books which we don’t already have in the library, the list in the library shows which ones we have in stock already.
When you’ve chosen your titles add them to our board in the window-area of the library.

If you think books are magic you will love this – and even if you don’t, this video is well worth watching. Two comments I’ve heard so far are “Cool!” and “Amazing!”
Please watch it and then leave a comment

20 boys from Year 9, Mrs Cleaver and myself went to a talk by Tom Palmer the author of several stories all about football.
Tom started off by finding out which teams were supported by his audience and was most impressed that Harry W supported his own favourite team Leeds United.
He then told us how he’d started to read very late through his interest in football and how he later became an author even though writing was what he most hated doing at school.
Tom told us about all the famous footballers he’s met and the places he’s been through writing books and then he ran a football quiz for the audience, with people who answered correctly entering a penalty shoot-out. Tom had brought his own goalposts, whistle and football. Harry W and Dean P were the last 2 players in the shoot-out, with Connor W in goal, Dean finally carried off the trophy.

If, like me, you’ve been waiting to read the latest book in a series – you may be in luck. The photo shows some of the box-full of books which were delivered over the half-term holiday. They will be ready for you to borrow just as soon as we can get them jacketed, barcoded and onto the catalogue. If you’ve requested one keep checking your school emails!!!!
More good news. Today (Wednesday 28th) I had an email telling me the Booked Up! books are on their way to us. By the time you’re all back in school on Monday they should be here!

Almost all the year 7s have completed 3 English lessons in the library now. So they should have all had their fingerprints done, borrowed books, played the Reading Game and learnt how to use SearchStar to Find items, Review items and Reserve items. Their 4th session will be all about using the internet. We have all been very busy.
The Booked Up! order is almost ready to be sent off. Booked Up! is the name of the government scheme which gives every year 7 child in the country the chance to choose and keep a free book from a selected list. Last year the books themselves arrived around the beginning of November, so we are hopeful it will be about the same this year too.
Open Evening will be taking place on October 6th this year. The library will be open as usual with the ever-popular library game in progress and with computers showing various useful library applications – including this blog no doubt. Do come and join us – however briefly.

Hi everybody. It’s lovely to see you all back in school. If you’re reading this you have passed the initiative test and negotiated your way to the Library Blog successfully. I hope you like it. Please let me know what you would like to see here.
We have just recieved the Booked Up! books from which the Year 7s will be able to choose their free book very soon. I will get them out on the display shelves in the window area as soon as possible so Year 7s can start choosing.
New displays in the library for the start of term include one featuring suggestions of good reads for year 7s. If you came and visited the library on your induction day your book suggestion may be up there. Come in and take a look.

The first book I read this holiday was The New Policeman by Kate Thompson. Typically Irish, with themes of traditional Irish music, a parallel world, and time (too much or too little) running through it. An enjoyable story with just the right amount of weirdness in it.
Next I read The Amazing Maurice and his Educated Rodents by Terry Pratchett, an author who always makes me chuckle. The story is an unlikely mix of the fairytale The Pied Piper of Hamelin and Hustle from TV, and yes it did make me chuckle.
I moved onto Just Henry by Michelle Magorian, which is set in the years immediately after the end of the Second World War and tells how people and especially families tried to carry on with their lives. It interweaves the stories of a group of children linked by their love of films while at the same time tackling the kinds of attitudes which were generally held by people in those days. A good solid story with an old fashioned feel to it.
My next read was an adult book In the Kitchen by Monica Ali. I loved her book Brick Lane but it took me a while to get into it. In the Kitchen has the advantage of having a dead body discovered at the very start, which hooked me immediately. This story is based in the kitchen of a large smart hotel in London and the kitchen crew whose members come from Somalia, Russia, Libya etc.
